These nuts will generate all the soapy suds you need to get your laundry clean without any harsh chemicals. You don't need to use fabric softener, dryer sheets or laundry detergent, so add up the savings to your wallet while saving the environment at the same time!

More information about Soap Nuts

Your Source for Natural, Organic, Soap Nuts (Sapindus Mukorossi Soap Nuts)

  • ORGANIC
  • Non-toxic
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Eco-friendly
  • 100% natural
  • Less expensive than laundry detergent

Soap Nuts are the only laundry detergent in the world that grows on trees. They are the fruit of the Chinese Soap Berry Tree. They are harvested, dried in the sun, and then deseeded. No chemicals are added.

They are 100% natural, organically grown, and will not harm the environment or your health like chemical detergents do. Soap Nuts have been used for thousands of years in Asian cultures. They work incredibly well, and your wash will be amazingly fresh smelling and soft and fluffy without using fabric softener or dryer sheets. Your towels will also be more absorbent. They are really good at removing odors. Smelly clothes from fishing, body odor smell from sports, etc will all be removed better than they would with chemical detergents.

The soap nut contains a natural soap called saponin. Saponin has cleaning abilities equal to toxic chemical detergents. Soap Nuts are extremely hypo-allergenic and can be used by people who are allergic to all other detergents. They are completely green and don't pollute our planet. Soap Nuts go by many names, such as soap berries, wash berries, wash nuts, Ritha, Reetha, Aritha, Dodan, Doadni, Doda, Kanma, Thali.

Do they cost extra, like most green products?

Most non-toxic cleaning products cost more than the products they replace. Soap nuts cost much less than toxic chemical detergents. Add in the cost of fabric softener or dryer sheets and soap nuts cost two and a half times less.

How do I use them?

Just place 3 to 5 whole soap nuts in the included drawstring wash bag and toss it into the washer with your clothes. Don't use any detergent, fabric softener or dryer sheets. Even after shipping almost all of your soap nuts will be whole when you receive them. We recommend breaking them in half before you put them in the draw string wash bag so water can circulate freely through the inside of the shell so they can release their saponin easier. Soap nuts work equally well in top loaders or the newer HE front loaders. With a top loader expect about 4-6 wash loads using the same soap nuts. With a front loader HE machine you can expect about 7-9 wash loads. The best way to tell if your soap nuts are used up is to put your used soap nuts in a jar with a lid with a few ounces of water and shake them up. If you get suds, you can get another load out of them. Pour the sudsy water in the washer and put the soap nuts back in the wash bag and toss them in for another load.

So if you used bleach for your whites before, you can still use bleach for whites and pre spotters for tough stains.

Other Uses for Soap Nuts

What other uses are there for Soap Nuts besides Laundry Detergent?

1. Just throw about 5 soap nuts in a bucket and fill the bucket about half way with the garden hose. Spray under pressure and you will get a lot of suds. This mixture makes an excellent car wash.

2. You can make a soap nut liquid by boiling 3 ounces of water per soap nut. Boil them for about a half an hour then let them sit and then boil them again the next day. This is done to get all the saponin out of the shells. Strain the liquid and you will have a concentrated dark brown liquid soap. Your home made liquid will not contain any preservatives and will not last more than about 2 to 3 weeks. The perfect solution is to make soap nuts ice cubes using an ice cube tray. Then whenever you want, just throw a soap nut ice cube into a pan of water or a spray bottle and dilute for the job at hand, for an unlimited number of all-purpose, totally non-toxic household cleaning jobs like cleaning counter tops and cabinets. Or throw an ice cube into the washer instead of using the whole nuts. Some people even wash their hair and body with the liquid. It doesn't lather up much like regular shampoos, but it does a good job of cleaning and leaves your hair and skin clean and soft like you used conditioner, and it's totally non-toxic.

3. Soap nuts have been used for centuries for killing head lice and their eggs. And supposedly soaking your feet in soap nut liquid cures athlete's foot. We have not verified if this works yet.
